Paul Belanger of Sanford High School and Colby College was one of Maine’s greatest all round athletes. His high school exploits on the football won him the 1976 Fitzpatrick Award as Maine’s best football player; in addition, he was a Bangor Daily News second team All-State basketball player in 1977.
Paul was more than a high performing athlete, he was also an outstanding student and his career at Colby followed the same trajectory as his high school days. Playing for Coach Whitmore, Paul amassed 1160 points in his four years as a starter, placing him 20th on the all-time list of Mule greats.
