Bryce Beattie

Bryce Beattie has been directly involved in basketball for seventy years. His career started in the 1950s when high school basketball was a half -court game; played with a lot of zone defenses, and two- handed push shots. Bryce had a different vision; and he introduced a full-court, pressure defense, with a fast breaking style that  helped usher in the modern game in Maine.

In his career, Bryce coached in New Hampshire, Massachusetts, and Maine and amassed over 400 wins, 207 of those came in Maine. He coached George Stevens, Freeport, Windham, and Noble High Schools. However, it was at Freeport that he achieved legendary status. From 1958 to 1964, his teams won three State titles, in 1959,1960, and 1964!

Bryce also won the Mass. Eastern Championship at Swampscott High School. He was inducted into the Maine Sports Hall of Fame in 2007.
