A stellar athlete at Morse High School, the 1953 graduate excelled in football, basketball, and baseball, and then went on to do the same at Bowdoin College. He became the first Polar Bear to break the 1,000 point barrier, finishing his career with 1,144 points, despite freshman not being allowed to compete at the varsity level during that time. Brud went on to become a respected basketball official for many years afterwards.
